The Cornerstone Theater Group is looking for actors and those who want to get involved with theater to produce an original play about Watts and issues that are faced. The group will hold an exploratory meeting Saturday, February 17, 10 a.m. at St. John’s. At the meeting, directors/producers of the play will listen to stories from those who currently live and work in Watts. As well as those who have lived in the area and understand the history of the community. From these stories a script will be written, actors, musicians, sound engineers, etc., selected and eventually a play performed here at St. John’s and perhaps other locations in the area. Individuals selected will be trained in their specific area. Cornerstone is a community theater group that uses professional and amateur actors to tell its stories. Performers are usually provided with a stipend. Pastor Larry performed with the group at the Mark Taper Forum several lyears ago and won a Garland Award for his role in a play called For Here or to Go. If you are interested, see Pastor Larry or Administrative Secretary Jackie Badejo. “Working with groups such as Cornerstone is part of our vision of having the community come to our Oasis in the Desert, St. John’s,” the Pastor said. “We’re excited about the possibilities."
